Hello parents and guardians

The end of the 2019-2020 school year has arrived. This is undoubtedly a school year for the record books! This year we were faced with adversity and the unknown and we came together showing resilience and collaboration! Hard to believe that it ended in such an unusual way but we are very thankful for all of your support throughout the year, especially as we navigated the new waters of Distance Learning.

We are so proud of all that has been accomplished during these weeks of Distance Learning. The staff and students as well as parents adapted to the “new ways” of learning, with very few bumps along the road. The variety of tools that teachers used to help engage the students and to assist with the learning has amazed me. I was especially proud of how our grade 6 team prepared a wonderful virtual leaving ceremony, that was personal and involved student voice.

If you were unable to come to the school to pick up your child’s items, they will be returned to them in the fall once the school reopens.

By now, you should have registered for the parent portal. There may be a slight delay in accessing the report cards but our IT team is working with the vendor on fixing all issues as they arise. The Parent Portal will be one of the ways we will be communicating with the parents moving forward. If you have not registered yet for the Parent Portal, please click on the following link to do so. For any inquiries about the Parent Portal please email  parentportal@ocsb.ca or call 613-695-3127.

Re-entry: Our School Board is working at developing a plan for the fall. Please read the following information that has been provided by our Director of Education. Parent Update OCSB You will receive an email from the board in August. I will then be reaching out to you shortly after that with what the specific school plan will be regarding reentry. We can appreciate that it is difficult to not have a plan set at this time but we will do our best to get it out to you as quickly as possible.

As we head into summer holidays, we would like to share with you the following resources. Please remember that there are many useful tools that can be found on the student portal through the school board. All students should know their login information.

We would like to take the time to acknowledge a few of our staff who will be leaving us for other adventures. Every school year, we have staff who either were only assigned to our school for the school year or who are moving on to different schools in our board. We would like to thank the following educators for all that they have done for our students.

Ms Bowen (Educational Assistant)

Ms Charron (Early Childhood Educator - K2)

Mme Fierro (K1/K2)

Ms Hines (Educational Assistant)

Mr McCarthy (grade 1)

Ms McCartney (grade 5)

Ms Meehan (Educational Assistant)

Ms Miron (Educational Assistant)

Ms Zeleny (Educational Assistant)

We wish them well on their next adventures.

As you are already aware, Mrs Shurb has been transferred to St Thomas Moore to assume the VP role at a larger school. We will miss her but we wish her success in this new post.  We have two staff members who are officially retiring this year. Mrs. Gosselin who has been our part-time Office administrator will be enjoying retirement after many years with the OCSB. She has been a huge help in the office. Mme Beaulieu, (grade 4 FSL) is also retiring. She has been at St George for 25 years! We wish her many happy days enjoying her next adventures and look forward to her visits in the fall! We will be welcoming Mrs Jacqueline Lawlor back to the St George team this August. There will be a few more new faces next year that will be hired over the summer months.

Earlier in the year we shared this link as a fundraiser for the school. By clicking on this link, you will be able to see the fundraiser that the School Council has set up through Indigo. This is an easy way to support activities for the students next year. Thank you for your support!

Have a fabulous summer, we will be in touch again in August with an update as to what the 2020-2021 school year will look like, the plan for reentry, how we will be greeting the children on the first day, and other important information. Our goal will be to make the transition back to school as smooth as possible. Thank you once again for your patience and understanding. Your support through all of this has been very much appreciated.

Take care and stay safe!
