Hello parents,

Today is the last day of our Catholic Education Week and Mental Health Awareness Week. Today we have asked our students to compile a list of music that makes them HAPPY :-) Doing that activity here has brought about some varying styles in music ;-) Here are a few of our staff’s favourites: HERE COMES THE SUN (The Beatles), Happy -Pharrell Williams , Walking on Sunshine - Katrina and the Waves  Have your children share their favourites (and yours) with their teachers! We want to thank you for helping your children take part in the various activities that took place this week. We want to thank Msgr Hans for his personal message on Igniting Hope for our students. In case you missed it, here is the link to the YouTube video. We love how he mentions that we all want to go back to school!! That includes us as Educators :-)

Help us make a difference to others: Our Catholic Education Team - Mrs Billowits, Mrs Hatoum and Mrs Caule, put together some amazing activities to remind us of how we can ignite hope in others. If you have been following us on twitter (even if you don’t have a twitter account, you can see our posts on the School Website as we retweet them, look for the following #OCSBHope) you can see that so many in our community are reaching out and sharing their inspiration for HOPE. The following links were shared with your child by their teacher this week. We originally had them split for various grades to complete but are now putting it out to any of our students to complete (they may want to do all three!) Flip Grid is a super easy tool to use. You just have to click on the link and it brings you directly to the page where you record your message. We asked students to either send a message of HOPE for the various organizations listed or to create a piece of ART and share it with others. Here are the links:

Grades 1,3,5 - Grace Manor

Grades 2,4,6 -Civic Hospital

Kindergarten-Grocery store

We were also incredibly fortunate, thanks to Mrs Hatoum’s efforts, to be able to reach the author Lauren Thompson who wrote "Hope is an Open Heart". She has recorded herself reading the book for our friends! How awesome is that! Here is the link

And last but definitely not least, Happy Mother’s day!

This year is certainly going to be celebrated in a different fashion than in previous years. No big family brunch or extended family dinner... Maybe some of you are unable to visit your mothers as they don’t live in Ottawa or are in a home. This will be a challenging year for most. We hope that Sunday can be a day where you can sit and reflect on how important you are to those little friends that you share with us. Now more than ever, your role as “teacher” has increased in layers. Maybe you’ll be spoiled with some homemade art or treats. We want you to know that we appreciate all that you do to help foster the love of learning and the characteristics that make our little friends such wonderful individuals, each with their own uniqueness and spark. Please take some time for you! We appreciate you too!!

Take care and stay safe!!
