At St. George we encourage deep learning and new experiences and our team of educators are committed to support and develop our students' interests through creating clubs and sports activities that are available to all of our students. Our activities are free and are scheduled during school hours and recess. Everyone at St. George is encouraged to join our school's clubs, groups, and/or teams!
Take a look at our clubs and sports here at St. George!
Here at St. George we, as students, get to participate in so many different and unique clubs. Our amazing teachers give up their extra personal and lunch times to help us to learn new things and even learn some "old" things. We have teachers who help us learn about our history and culture through the Black in Action club and Indigenous Beading Club. We learn about Coding and CyberSecurity, real world skills, and learn to collaborate and build in Minecraft! We learn to think about more than just ourselves and think about others and their problems and what we can do to help through our Social Justice League. Read on to learn more about what we get to do here at St. George! - A note from our students
SOCIAL CLUBS
This is Black In Action (BIA), a club dedicated to celebrating Black excellence and history. We are here to empower and inspire young Black students to learn more about their heritage while embracing a sense of pride in their identity. Our club provides a welcoming and fun space where students can connect, engage in activities, and explore their history through games and discussions. At our school, we believe that everyone—regardless of race, skin color, or background—has something valuable to bring to the table, and BIA stands as a testament to that inclusivity and strength.
Beading Club is a collaborative experience, where students can learn about indigenous beading, and try some out for themselves too! It is a very fun work experience, and it's a refreshing break from work. This is hosted and run by our Indigenous Knowledge Keeper friend and while we bead, we learn life lessons through stories and the history of her people.
The Social Justice League is one of the many clubs we have at St George. Social Justice is a club any student in grade 5 and 6 can join. In the club we help organize school events such as fun activities and food drives to raise awareness about issues in our community and our world. We are on a mission to spread kindness, help others, and take care of our planet. Together, we make our school and community a better place—one good deed at a time!
TECHNOLOGY & CODING CLUBS
We compete in the annual CyberPatriot Competition. This is an International competition hosted by the Air & Space Forces Association STEM program that promotes National Youth Cyber Education Program. Students learn to harden their network vulnerabilities, check for malicious malware and all forms of CyberSecurity in a fun and rewarding program.
Minecraft club is when grade 5 and 6 students come together and collaborate and play the most played game on Earth, Minecraft. Boys and girls meet every Monday and Wednesday to build weekly challenges that challenges their creativity, critical thinking and most importantly collaboration and communication. Students are given a prompt to plan, design and iterate for a specified amount of time to learn valuable real-world skills.
Coding Club is a place where students of all abilities can gather every Friday, and learn any type of code. Students can choose whether they would like to work with coding languages such as: Java Script, Python, or Scratch. If you need any help, you can watch YouTube videos, ask other students, or ask a teacher. It is a great collaborative atmosphere to make mistakes and learn.
ACADEMIC AND GAME CLUBS
This is a reading club that meets for the joy of reading. This is a great club for those students who just love to listen and enjoy a good story. It is also a great club for those readers who need an extra little bit of help reading and get to hear and watch and learn good reading strategies by some of our expert teachers. A huge hit for our primary students.
